Congo - Ngula - washed

Two years ago, we discovered the coffee from D.R. Congo in a blind tasting and were instant fans. After a short time away, it is back. CPNCK, despite the difficulties in the country, has managed to produce a high quality coffee with their farmers. The result is a full-bodied coffee, with the sweetness of fruitella sweets, the freshness of lime and a lovely floral aroma.
Description
CPNCK is a cooperative established to offer an alternative to the people of Idjwi for the armed conflict that has plagued the island and the region for years. CPNCK's goal is that their members can build a peaceful and self-sufficient life through specialty coffee.
As a result of the country's long history of civil wars, many peasant families had a difficult time. Farmers often had no other option than to bring their goods to Rwanda via smuggling routes. There, they had to sell them at dumped prices in order to make a living.
Idjwi is home to a striking number of widows who lost their husbands when crossing Lake Kivu. This is one of the most important reasons that the farmers have united themselves in the cooperative. This way, they can better organise themselves and are not at the mercy of traders from Rwanda. Under the leadership of Gilbert Makelele, many things have changed for the better for the members and the quality. Our partner This side up, an importer of coffee, made it possible, through close contact with Gilbert, to link the cooperative to the European market, which created many new opportunities. These include the production of microlots with unique flavours. A team with a mission and great coffee!
